Genealogy Research

The Register in Probate office is a common stopping point for individuals who are doing genealogy research or are just trying to fill gaps in a family history.  The probate records are a wealth of information about heirs at law and beneficiaries in estate proceedings.

Documents like the petitions/applications, proofs of heirship, inventories, among other documents housed in an estate/probate case are a wealth of information for genealogic searches.  Probate records are housed electronically in the CCAP system, on microfilm and microfiche, as well as with the Wisconsin State Historical Society in Madison or at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Golda Meir Library.
