About the Office of the County Executive

County Executive Farrow signing the 2025 County Budget with Board members
Waukesha County operates under a County Executive system. The Executive is elected in a county-wide, non-partisan, April election for a four-year term. The position oversees all administrative functions not assigned to other officials. Duties include appointing department heads and board members (with County Board confirmation), preparing the budget, and vetoing or partially vetoing legislation. A two-thirds County Board vote is required to override vetoes.
