Treatment Courts
OWI Treatment Court
The Waukesha OWI Treatment Court provides intensive supervision and case management of third and fourth offense drunk drivers post-conviction with intensive judicial oversight. There is an emphasis on treatment in an effort to help offenders break the cycle of drunk diving, improve the chances of a sober and healthy life, and contribute to a safe community. It was the first alcohol treatment court in Wisconsin. The program is based on a drug court model, which has 10 key components that Wisconsin Community Services (WCS) integrates and follows. The drug court model has been around since 1989 when the first drug court was established in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
The mission of Waukesha County OWI Treatment Court is to reduce the number of repeat drunk drivers (OWI) by allowing OWI offenders to participate in alcohol and other substance abuse treatment under strict judicial and community supervision. The OWI Treatment Court will use community and justice system resources in a cost effective and efficient manner while holding offenders accountable an enhancing public safety.
