New Courthouse Corridor Re-Opens
Monday, April 21, 2025, Waukesha County re-opened a major corridor connecting the public to civil, family and criminal courtrooms. The north/south wing had been closed for approximately 18 months due to the massive courthouse renovation project. This completion marks a significant milestone in the project's progress.
After going through security screening at the public entrance, visitors can now walk straight through down a new hallway to access courtrooms and the courts tower which houses criminal courts. During the past year and a half, visitors had to navigate via following blue floor dots, walking through various hallways, using an elevator, cutting through the cafeteria and a courtyard tunnel to reach the courts tower.
This new path will not only greatly reduce confusion, but allow visitors to reach their destination much easier.
Similar to our Courts Tower, 11 new courtrooms will feature state of the art technology, security upgrades and include three-way separation. Three-way separation means the public, judicial staff and prisoners will arrive at court through different hallways, eliminating any chance for those groups to have contact in the hallway.
Lots of things have changed since our original courthouse was built in 1959. For example, all of the mechanical systems were out of date. New systems that are energy-efficient and comply with current building codes have been installed. We have also improved the line of site by eliminating many of the columns.
New numbering of courtrooms will begin in May.
This $115 million dollar project will also re-do the east/west courthouse wing. In 2026, the public entrance will move to the Administration Center Employee Entrance.
The overall construction is projected to be completed by mid-2027.
