Sheriff's Deputy Cancer Fundraiser

Waukesha County Sheriff's Deputy Steve Lyles' kidney cancer has become more aggressive and now requiring his family to travel nationwide with the hopes of getting into trials to treat the cancer.

"It's what life is gonna give me, complaining about it, isn't gonna get me anywhere," Deputy Lyles said in an interview with WTMJ 4's Rebecca Klopf February 18th.

Deputy Lyles continues to work through treatment as a court bailiff and now his fellow deputies are giving him the backup he needs.

Members of the Waukesha County Deputies Association say Lyles has never asked for any help.

"This is probably the first time he's let us help him," Deputy Patrick Maylen said.

That help comes in the form of a fundraiser Saturday February 22 at Steel Tank Brewing in Oconomowoc, through the even and an online Go Fund Me page, they hope to raise $20,000 for Steve's medical expenses.

"I'm just humbled by the whole experience that they approached me and I don't even have words to express my grattitude," Lyles told WISN 12 News.
