County ExecutiveWaukesha County operates under a County Executive system. The Executive is elected in a county-wide, non-partisan, April election for a four-year term. The position oversees all administrative functions not assigned to other officials. Duties include appointing department heads and board members (with County Board confirmation), preparing the budget, and vetoing or partially vetoing legislation. A two-thirds County Board vote is required to override vetoes. |

Corporation CounselThe Office of Corporation Counsel provides legal services to Waukesha County, its elected officials, and departments. Corporation Counsel represents Waukesha County in all civil litigation and administrative proceedings in which the county is a party. In addition, Corporation Counsel is responsible for the prosecution of mental health commitments, the establishment of guardianships and protective placements, and the representation of the public in cases involving children and juveniles in need of protection or services as well as the termination of parental rights. The Child Support Division of Corporation Counsel establishes paternity and enforces child support obligations on behalf of the State of Wisconsin. The Office of Corporation Counsel does not provide legal services to members of the general public. |

County BoardThere are 25 members of the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors, elected to two-year terms in even numbered years from separate geographic districts with a population of approximately 15,596 per district. The county board is the legislative branch of Waukesha County government, guiding the direction of the county the board sets policy by adopting ordinances and resolutions. |

County ClerkThe Waukesha County Clerk's office is a State Constitutional office, with the clerk being elected every four years by the people of Waukesha County. The function of the County clerk's office can be broken down into three major areas; Election Administration, Legislative Support & Administrative Services. Within these three areas, the office is responsible for all the records as required by the state statutes and is clerk to the county board. For elections, the Clerk's office prepares and distributes the ballots and supplies, programs election equipment, works with municipalities on voter registration and training, receives and tabulates unofficial elections results and runs the board of canvass for all county, state and federal offices in Waukesha County. The office also distributes marriage licenses, works with municipalities on dog licenses and is a US Passport acceptance agency. |

Emergency PreparednessThe Department of Emergency Preparedness provides countywide services through its three divisions, the Communications Center (the countywide 9-1-1 PSAP and dispatch center), Emergency Management and Radio Services. The department also collaborates with local governments and public safety agencies to enhance emergency responses to all types of disasters creating resilience across the county. |
