Compostable Material & Food Scraps
Composting is a great, easy way to recycle:
- leaves
- grass clippings
- yard trimmings
- kitchen scraps at home
Add finished compost to the soil as a great organic plant food. 30% of garbage is food waste and is compostable. Let's get started!
Unable to compost? Compost pickup service is available for a fee in select communities via BrewCity Compost.
To give away dirt, rocks and sod:
- Post or promote somewhere local “free fill”
- list dirt and soil on DirtMatch
- or check with local landscapers.

Landscape Plastics/Planting Pots
Do not put plastic plant pots, containers, and trays in your curbside recycling cart. Some of the dirt and debris stays in them, even when rinsed.
Some local landscaping and garden centers may accept these items in small quantities. They might turn them into new garden pots and trays (Home Depot, Lowes). Check with the store you bought from to see if they will take them back.
Larger producers may want to check the Wisconsin Recycling Market Directory
