Airport Construction

 Silvernail Road Relocation Project Underway

Waukesha County Airport, in cooperation with local, state and federal agencies, began relocating a portion of Silvernail Road to comply with Runway Safety Area (RSA) requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This phase of the overall RSA project is expected to finish at the end of September, 2025.

RSAs are the areas surrounding each runway that are smoothly graded, and capable of supporting the passage of an aircraft in the event of a departure from the runway on takeoff or landing. Currently, Silvernail Road encroaches on the Runway 10 RSA by as much as 500 feet on the west, and Pewaukee Road encroaches on the Runway 28 RSA by as much as 400 feet on the east, which clearly does not meet the safety standard. To resolve the problem, a realignment of Silvernail Road, together with a 400-foot westerly shift of Runway 10-28, has been identified as the best approach for the airport, the neighborhood and the environment. Relocating Silvernail Road will have minimal impact on vehicular traffic surrounding the airport and no impact on airport operations.

The Waukesha County Airport will maintain proactive communication with the community throughout the project.
