Crane Request

For all crane operations within a five (5) nautical mile radius of the airport, entities will need to submit a request within three (3) business days to the following email address: airport@waukeshacounty.gov. We ask that you use “HLZO for Airport Operations” in the subject line. Upon receiving the request, a member of the airport operations team will reach out to conduct a follow-up. In addition to notifying airport staff, you will need to use the following link to determine if a filing with the FAA is required: https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/portal.jsp.

Should a filing be required, we ask that you submit any information from the FAA to the airport as soon as it is received.

Note: Submitting your request does not constitute immediate approval. Airport operations will reach out for further information and discussion.

Filing For Construction, Alterations or use of Crane/Temporary Structures

Reporting your New Construction, Alterations, or use of Crane or Temporary Structure is required if:

  • There will be New Construction or an Alteration to an existing structure within a five-mile radius of the Waukesha County Airport.
  • Use of a Crane or Temporary structure that exceeds the height of the existing structure or is a stand-alone Crane or Temporary structure within a five-mile radius of the Waukesha County Airport.

Follow the link to see if filing with the FAA is required,
https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/portal.jsp

Scroll to the bottom of the page and select “Please click here to use the FAA’s Notice Criteria Tool to determine if you meet the requirements to file notice of your construction or alteration." Once you select this you will be brought to the FAA form.

    1. Under structure type select the appropriate subject.
    2. The latitude and longitude for the location can be found using Google Earth https://earth.google.com/, enter the address of the work location.
    3. Hover over the location where the crane/temporary structure will be used and the Lat/Long will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
    4. The Horizontal Datum should be left as NAD83 (this is specific to the US and Canada).
    5. Site elevation can also be found in the same location on Google Earth as the Lat/Long. Make sure this is in feet not meters. Keep this handy, it will likely be needed if filing with the FAA is required.
    6. Structure height will be the maximum height intended for the operation of the crane/temporary structure, also measured in feet.
    7. If the structure is not on the airport grounds, the answer will be “no.”
    8. Click submit.

An instant notice will populate under the form with information on if filing with the FAA is required.

If the FAA requires filing per the criteria tool, return to https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/portal.jsp and create a user login. Select “Add New Case (Off Airport)” under OE/AAA Account in the menu on the left side of the screen (see below). Follow the prompts for sponsor, etc. The sponsor should be the company requesting the use of the crane or the user filing.
