Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group
In 1997, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department became the first Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) accredited law enforcement agency in the State of Wisconsin. We remain one of four Sheriff’s Department in the State of Wisconsin to hold this status. Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping institutions evaluate and improve their overall performance.
Accreditation is a voluntary process that promotes excellence in law enforcement, increases professionalism and helps agencies better serve their communities. WILEAG requires agencies to go through the accreditation process every three years. The process includes an in-depth examination of all aspects of the department’s policies, procedures, management practices, operations, and support services. The assessment team is composed of law enforcement professionals from other agencies throughout the state.
Currently there are a total of sixty-four law enforcement agencies and public safety communication centers participating in WILEAG. Nineteen agencies are participating in the CORE standards verification, and forty-five agencies are participating in full accreditation.
