Civilian Court House Security Screener

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office employes nine part-time Civilian Bailiffs.

Civilian Bailiffs work within the Waukesha County Court House as Security Screeners. The position is situated within an important security checkpoint and involves screening the public for any potential contraband or prohibited items as they enter the Waukesha Courthouse/Administration complex.

A Security Screener contributes to the overall confidence in building safety, facilitating the seamless movement of people and belongings. A Security Screener must also maintain situational awareness by remaining alert for any suspicious activity, potential threats, or individuals attempting to bypass security screening. It requires the ability to respond promptly and efficiently to security breaches or alarms following established protocols to resolve incidents, and coordinate with law enforcement to provide critical information and support during security incidents or threats.

A Security Screener interacts with a diverse range of customers, navigating challenging customer situations and handling various personalities. Candidate must be adept at adjusting communication styles based on individual interactions. This position also requires problem-solving skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and ability to effectively resolve conflicts and defuse tense situations.
