Court Services Division

The sheriff of each county is required by state statute to attend the circuit courts. The deputies in the Court Services Division serve as bailiffs, provide security for 12 circuit courts and five court commissioners, transport prisoners to and from court, provide security for the Waukesha County Government Center, serve civil process and warrants, and assist the patrol division.

The Sheriff’s Department works with the county's department of administration and the circuit courts to develop and enhance security procedures for Waukesha County. An example of this cooperation is the security-screening station and controlled access program at the courthouse and administrative center.

Division Commanders:

Captain Aaron Bogie

Lieutenant Brian Bortmess

Waukesha County Court House Information

Hours of operation are 7:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday excluding holidays when the facilities are closed.

Screening will take place in the lobby of the Courthouse. Additional screening will occur at this location when the facilities are open after-hours.

Why screen? Based on facility surveys, assessments, employee input and society's general expectations regarding security, enhancements in controlled access are deemed appropriate at this time.

Who is affected? Controlled access screening is mandatory for all persons seeking access to the Courthouse and Administration Center, except for persons who work in offices located in these facilities who have approved access cards.

What items are prohibited?

  • firearms
  • ammunition
  • explosives
  • electric weapons
  • martial arts weapons
  • knives
  • tools (unless authorized contractor)
  • brass knuckles
  • mace/pepper spray
  • box cutters/razor blades
  • swords/sabers
  • flammables
  • pellet guns, BB guns, or replica firearms
  • other dangerous instrument

Security staff are authorized to use their discretion in disallowing items not included on the above list if they believe the item could pose a danger to the safety and security of persons within the building.

If a person brings a prohibited item to the screening station, the individual will be given the option of removing the item from the building or disposing of it in a non-retrievable disposal box. Anyone found in possession of an illegal item faces possible charges.

If inappropriate statements pertaining to weapons, bombs, etc. are made by people entering the building, such persons may face possible charges.

Where does screening take place? Members of the public who will be visiting either the Courthouse or the Administration Center must enter and exit the facilities through the main Courthouse entrance, 515 W. Moreland Blvd, Door #2. Screening will take place in the lobby of the Courthouse. A corridor near the Courthouse lobby connects both buildings together. A map of the Government Center campus identifying public access points and parking areas is available in the Quick Links above.

When will screening be conducted? Hours of operation are 7:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday excluding holidays when the facilities are closed. Additional screening will occur at this location when the facilities are open after-hours.

How does the screening work? Screening stations will be similar to those used at airports. Individuals will place their carried items (purses, cell phones, laptop computers, briefcase, etc.) on an X-ray machine belt. They also will have to remove any metal items from their clothing and pockets and place them in a bin to be X-rayed. They will then walk through a metal detector and retrieve their belongings on the other side. Security staff are prepared to assist persons with disabilities or other needs. Please feel free to ask questions if you have personal or health concerns.
