Biography
Larry Nelson is a dedicated public servant with a deep commitment to Waukesha County. His career began in 1976 as an 8th-grade language arts teacher at Butler Middle School, fostering a lifelong connection to the community.
In 2000, Larry entered public service, serving six years as a City of Waukesha Alderman. He was subsequently elected Mayor of the City of Waukesha in 2006, serving a four-year term. Following his mayoral service, he returned to education as a teacher at the Waukesha County Juvenile Center until his retirement in 2011.
In 2012, Larry was elected as the District 18 Waukesha County Supervisor, continuing his dedication to public service. He currently serves as Chair of the Waukesha County Joint Conference Committee (overseeing the Waukesha County Mental Health Center) and Co-Chair of the Waukesha County Heroin Task Force. He also serves on the Bridges Library System Board of Trustees, the Community Action Coalition Board of South Central Wisconsin, and the Community Development Block Grant Board.
Larry's commitment extends beyond the local level. He serves as Vice-Chair of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Community, Economic & Workforce Development Steering Committee, Vice-Chair of the NACo Arts & Culture Commission, and a member of the NACo Counties for Economic Mobility Committee and the NACo Leadership Advisory Council.
