Marriage Licenses

One of the main functions of the office is the issuance of marriage licenses.  Marriage Licenses are issued by appointment only during regular business hours and on the fourth Tuesday of the month until 5:30. Both Wisconsin residents and out of state residents may apply at any County Clerk's office in the State of Wisconsin.  The marriage license may then be used anywhere in the State of Wisconsin. The County Clerk's Office is the official record keeper for many basic County functions, including acting as the Clerk of the County Board of Supervisors. This function includes posting  and maintenance of agendas, minutes and proceedings as well as publishing the appropriate legal notices. The County Clerk's Office also provides staff assistance to the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors.

Election Administration

Another major area of responsibility of the Office of the County Clerk is election administration. This involves accumulating the results of each election and canvassing the election returns for each federal, state and county office. The coordination of election programming, coding, ballot preparation, and election notices for the federal, state and county elected offices is also this office's responsibility.

For election purposes, the County Clerk's Office is the filing officer for the County Board of Supervisors and the County Elected Officials. This means that campaign finance and ballot access forms such as nomination papers, campaign registration and declaration of candidacy forms for these offices are filed with the County Clerk.

What We do

Welcome to the Waukesha County Clerk's Area.

The Waukesha County Clerk's office is a State Constitutional office, with the clerk being elected every four years by the people of Waukesha County.

The function of the County clerk's office can be broken down into three major areas; Election Administration, Legislative Support & Administrative Services.

Within these three areas, the office is responsible for all the records as required by the state statutes and is clerk to the county board. For elections, the Clerk's office prepares and distributes the ballots and supplies, programs election equipment, works with municipalities on voter registration and training, receives and tabulates unofficial elections results and runs the board of canvass for all county, state and federal offices in Waukesha County. The office also distributes marriage licenses, works with municipalities on dog licenses and is a US Passport acceptance agency.

I am delighted that you have taken time to look at our site and hope that you find it useful today and in the future. Please take a minute to review the four “Related LInks” listed. Each provides very interesting information about the state-wide election process, the 72 county clerks in the state of Wisconsin and the various duties they perform, and your municipal clerks.
